Apparently it's going to be called the Eee Box B202.

1.6 GHz Intel Atom CPU,
80 to 250GB hard disk options (yes spinning magnetic disks not solid state),
Gigabit ethernet,
512MB - 2GB memory options,
Windows or Linux

Cost is currently reputed to be $269 to $299 so expect to see them coming in at £130 to £200 here.

Looks like a very interesting potential option for small offices - a possible alternative to a thin client setup?
I recently purchased an eee pc which has Windows Vista as it's operating system. I thought I'd prefer this as it's what I use on my desktop but I'm finding that sometimes I can't view all parts of certain windows. I've tried changing the resolution without success and I'm wondering now if I'd be better off re-installing the original operating system. As it is now I don't have Outlook or Outlook express installed and I'm finding that I want more than just internet access. The
How does the Linux system compare to Vista? It looks like it might give me more options than I currently have. Will I be able to view and work on Word and Publisher documents with the Linux operating system? And since I'm not particularly computer savvy, how do I put the original system back in place?
I appreciate all the info I can get.

There's a survey for Eee PC owners and users about why you chose the Eee PC and what you use it for. It would be great if you could pitch in and answer the questionnaire. (It's really quick, will only take a few minutes).

Just follow the link below and answer the questions:
And feel free to forward the link to other Eee PC users.
The survey is open until June 23rd.

HP Pavilion - dv3000 - Does it perform well?

Hello Everybody! I am in search of a new notebook and have come across this HP Pavilion dv3005tx as one of the best laptops, especially; HP is more preferred company in India to go for in terms of computing.

I have few questions in regards to this laptop:

Q1. How is this notebook in terms of performance?

Q2. Does this notebook get heated very fast? This is b’coz my usage of desktop computer is for 9 – 10 hrs everyday wherein I surf the website, listen to music, keep files for downloading while PC is on standby mode, etc... But play games very less as well as watching movies. Therefore, I wonder if this notebook will be able to sustain such long hours.

Again, I will be using notebook this at my residence, so I don’t have an air condition in the living room; instead, I turn on the fan.

Q3. What are the main limitations of this notebook as compared to the HP Business series laptops?

Q4. Does this notebook have the capacity of sustaining jerks & pressure while on move? This is quiet important for me b'coz I might be carrying this notebook on my 2 wheeler.

Q5. How is the battery life of this notebook?

Also, prior to HP Pavilion dv3000, I was planning to buy HP Pavilion tx2000 Tablet Notebook and this is because I felt that since if I have to go with a notebook, than why should I not go with some more features such as screen twisting, writing on the screen, touch screen, etc... But the realities of the laptop strike me when I went to Tata Croma which deals into “Electronics & Computers” here, in Mumbai.

When I observed the screen of this laptop, I got very disappointed b’coz it looked so dull, even if one would stand in front of it. This made me switch over from a tablet to a non-tablet notebook.

Now, the cost of this HP Pavilion dv3005tx Notebook is Rs. 53’000/- and that is slightly worrying me b’coz, it is said that unless one buys and uses a product, the reality of that product would not be know and the same is what I am feeling at this moment.

Since, I cannot spend that huge amount repeatedly and notebook being costly cannot be changed at regular intervals, therefore I have to stick around with this laptop at least for next 7 years.

So, only thing I am concerned about is that I should not get stuck up with this laptop with any kind of issues. As one of the users on this forum has mentioned that b’coz of the reflection on mirror-like palm rest, watching of movies would become difficult, so now this makes me wonder if I should go with it.

Also, this laptop in India has an option up till 1.83 GHz and not beyond that. And FSB is till 667 MHz and so e’m worried about its performance.

Therefore, if anybody on this forum can help me with my worries, it would be really great!

I admit, I am not familiar with Linux but have been enamored with the positive feedback I hear about it. I would use this 900 as a travel laptop, checking some on-line classes I teach, presenting PowerPoint presentations, checking email, and possibly using the webcam. Pretty simple.

So, with Linux, would I be able to design, save, and run PowerPoint (.PPT) presentations with ease?

Does it offer capability to connect to an external monitor (i.e. LCD projector)?

In the future, is it fairly easy to integrate my XP (or if I purchase a larger laptop, then Vista... possibly Office 07) documents/presentations to the Linux-based pc, if needed (I don't see this happening often, as this will primarily be for travel and not my big work)?

I have never read anything regarding how hot it will run, or if the fan (is there one?) is loud. My presentations are typically all day (think: 8-9 hours)

Do you know, in the US, where this will be available soon for purchase? Is it available in just the white, or also in the black (which do you like best?... the white seems to possibly "dirty" much more quickly, or am I wrong?)

Finally, I am eager... so should I really wait for the Atom? I heard the current processor is just as fast. Battery life isn't a huge concern, as I am typically plugged in, although on occassion, it would be nice to work outside if I want.

Thank you so much for your input.

Hi all,

As the thread title says really, where I work we go to clients workplaces (and sometimes houses) and have to deal with a myriad of networks etc, basically it's come to the point where having a "pool" laptop would be a good idea to take to clients to use instead of their own PC, maybe preloaded with some diagnosis tools.

We're really just looking at the pros and cons of an EEE. How well does it play with Windows, shares etc? What version of Linux is it running?

Cheers,

I have noticed that all net connections have a "Share this connection with local area network computers" tick box under their sharing tab... So this means if I purchased a vodaphone stick (as discussed in another thread on this forum) I could share it with other PCs on my LAN. So far so good.

What i want to be able to do is turn my eeepc into a wireless hotspot though. Share the vodaphone/o2/3 3G/GPRS connection with other wiresless machines. I was really hopeful when EEEAP came along as I thought it might turn the machine into an access point in its own right, but it didn't.

Anybody got any clues?

Has anybody here done the BIOS update that has come through on the software updates (factory default EEE linux install)... I'm a bit nervous about doing this as apparently it can brick the machine if it goes wrong...
