My screen has suddenly gone black, except for the tool bar across the bottom. It appeasr to be working, but I've lost all the work spaces and applications - task manager comes up fine. Anyone HELP??!

Have you tried the Reset Button? It's a tiny hole in the bottom (back) of the PC you push with a paperclip. As your system reboots, press and hold F9 and the system will reset to factory settings. If you have done upgrades, you'll have to do them again.
