hello all

i have a 2G surf eee pc, and i cant seem to find any calendar software on it. Am i just not seeing it or do i need to download something so that i can use it? Id like to have a calendar as this baby lappy is my new best friend, and goes everywhere with me, it would be really helpful Smile

thanks very much

Cheryl
Hi Cheryl.

I would think the most straightforward way would be to add the calendar plugin for Thunderbird (which is the email client on your EEE).

Try going to :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2313

And downloading/installing it. I think it's pretty decent.

The other (possibly even easier) option - just use Google Calendar. I think the only pitfall of this is that you obviously need to be online to use it ; not sure if that will be a problem or not..

The plugin is called LIGHTNING - more general info here :

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/

Kind regards,

Fred

Hi Cheryl.

It isn't listed/described as Thunderbird. It's just the email application. But when you open it up, it is thunderbird (unless there's a difference between the 4gb and the 2gb one)?

Kind regards.
Alex.

Hi Alex

yep i think there may be a difference between the two, as i wouldnt even know where to look for an email application on my 2GB machine Smile its a little annoying that there is no email client on my machine but that said, its turned out to be rather useful to use webmail as i can access my mail from anywhere now.

Would be nice to know if im missing it though, as i may just be not looking properly!

regards

Cheryl

On the top of the screen there are several tabs :-

Internet | Work | Learn | Play | Settings | Favourites | Help ? |

Click on the Work one. If yours has mail, then that is Thunderbird. If not, I guess it isn't installed on your EEE. I have found with a bit of surfing two peoples different screenshots (attached). I didn't realise this but it does seem like the 2G version is missing Thunderbird. It would be quite easily to pop a memory card in the side of the machine though, and install Thunderbird on that, but if you've found a solution in the webmail then I guess you're sorted. Be interested to know what your icon situation is - whether Mail is there or not... (see attachments)

hi again Alex

hmmm seems there is a difference. I am hoping you can see the picture of my work tab and internet tab. The internet tab shows the web mail short cut, and the work one shows there is no mail short cut at all.

Mind you I hadnt thought of putting thunderbird on my memory card!!!! It hadn't even entered my head, so thanks for that! Smile

You're probably well and truly organized by now but if you try the Accessories option on the Work tab you should find an option called PIM (Personal Information Manager) It has multiple facilities including a very good calender.
If you have moved to full desktop mode you will find the calender under Applications-Accessories-Personal Information Manager.
Hope this of use to you

Sorry, mine is a 4G, but considering the need for such a program I would be surprised if it didn't appear on yours
