Disclosure right off the bat - I'm not particularly computer savvy so I apologize in advance if my questions are a bit simple.
I recently purchased an eee pc which has Windows Vista as it's operating system. I thought I'd prefer this as it's what I use on my desktop but I'm finding that sometimes I can't view all parts of certain windows. I've tried changing the resolution without success and I'm wondering now if I'd be better off re-installing the original operating system. As it is now I don't have Outlook or Outlook express installed and I'm finding that I want more than just internet access. The
How does the Linux system compare to Vista? It looks like it might give me more options than I currently have. Will I be able to view and work on Word and Publisher documents with the Linux operating system? And since I'm not particularly computer savvy, how do I put the original system back in place?
I appreciate all the info I can get.

Hi Dona,

Well firstly well done for getting Vista working on the EEE. I imagine it's quite slow - is yours the EEE 900 series or the EEE 700 series? (if you're not sure, is your screen 8" diagonal or smaller)?

It sounds like you probably have the 700 series with the smaller screen if you're getting problems with things being clipped by the small screen size. The resolution of the smaller one is 800x480 - the larger one is 1024x600.

The Linux OS is perfectly usable for general work. It runs a set of applicaions called Open Office, which will open and save word, excel, powerpoint etc files. Publisher might be a problem however.

Have you thought about installing Windows XP though? This can have a much less bulky user interface, and maybe would give you a bit more usable screen area - whilst maintaining the ability to run "genuine" MS office and publisher apps....
