Alright Terry.
The inbuilt media player does an OK job playing various sorts of media. Certainly I've played XVID and DIVX perfectly well - both from internal disk and also off a network share.
I forget what it's a rebadge of...
Note that you could also install VLC media player and that would play literally anything!...
Rich.

A video related general question. Does this great little machine play decently mp4, divx or even mp2 videos? Thanks in advance
If you're watching them on the inbuilt LCD screen then it's absolutely fine. I have on occasion connected a large 32" LCD to it, and found for some reason it it a tad pixelated, however this could just be the source file being rubbish! It's fine.
You didn't say whether you wanted windows or linux to play them? AFAIK both will do it, I only know for sure on Linux though.

Well, you can take advantage of the widescreen for playing videos, i rcomend to use VLC on Windows and Linux.
PD: remember that it has no DVD drive, but you can still watch videos.
